i dont know if this is country wide but in michiigan if ur seat belt is unbuckled you get a ticket..... i feel it is ok if you are under a certain age and ur parents SHOULD buckle you in but if dont wanna wear a belt then i should not have to.... btw i always do i dont wanna die lol
Do you think not buckling your seatbelt should be a crime?
it is in all 50 states , but i 100% agree with you , when it comes to adults , if i drive a motor cycle in pa i do not need to wear a helmet ( foolish ) but if i get in a car i better have my seat belt on . ( which i always wear ) being a police officer i have seen the great benefits of wearing them first hand . as i have seen people on motorcycles suffer critical life changing injuries for not wearing one , however if they can use the argument for motorcycles about choice then this should also apply to seat belts
Reply:Many people have mentioned that the seat belt law is a money grab by the government. I believe that it is actually a cost saving measure on the government's part. A saving in MEDICAL costs. Here in Canada, everyone gets "free" medical care (we pay hugely in taxes for this). I shouldn't have to pay almost 40% of my salary in taxes (I am not exaggerating) to pay for someone's injuries caused by not wearing their seat belt.
As long as people continue to use public roads, they must follow the rules set out by the government.
Governments are elected by the people, by the way. If there are enough people behind a "no seat belt law" amendment then changes to it could be made. Most people support these laws.
Also... just a note: "wanna" is not a word, it is "want to".
Reply:You can get a ticket for it where I am too....
Reply:They had to make it a requirement that has a penalty of a fine if it is not followed. It isn't a crime per-say.
I think it is common sense, and since so many people are lacking in common sense, the law has the authority and obligation to protect and serve its citizenry, so yeah, you deserve a fine for:
A. not showing common sense
B. not observing a law (that you knew existed)
Reply:Of course, it's not a crime. These laws were passed to protect people's lives and that includes your own. Don't despair if you got a ticket. Do despair if you if bump your car without your seatbelt on.
Reply:No, it should not be forced upon people of age that don't want to wear one. The government and law enforcement our limiting our liberties and rights and no-one seems to see this!
Reply:People should get tickets, just never jail time. I mean if they want to gamble with their lives so be it.
Reply:its a safety requirement and its a great way to save lifes from accidents. i think it is already a crime.
Reply:In Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina it is a ticketable offense. I always wear my seatbelt anyway and would encourage others to do the same. I've seen way more lives saved wearing them than I've seen lost, and tragically in my line of work, I've seen lots of dead people. My father feels the same way you do however and he has a numerous amount of tickets to prove. He'll put on his seatbelt in his race car, but refuses to wear it to drive on the street. I find that so very odd.
Reply:In Ma. you have to wear a seat belt or it is a $25.00 fine. Personally I feel that if you are over 18, the choice should be you re's, how ever seat belts do save lives and can prevent injuries.
Reply:This is how stupid this is. In Kentucky you don't have to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle, but you have to wear your seatbelt. Yet for some reason when was the last time you saw a school bus with seat belts? a public bus? I mean its a way for the government to make more money. PERIOD. Why is it illegal to drink and drive, yet we have drive through liquor stores?
