2 year old with buckle fracture...10 pt for best suggestion1?

I have a very active 2 yr old and she fell on the playground yesterday and she now has a buckle fracture in her right leg at the lower end of the fibula. Since I am 27 weeks pregnant the doctor did not want to immobilize her with a hard cast. She is in a 'boot' which is secured by velcro straps. She keeps taking the boot off. I called the doctor and he said to keep her off the leg and call back with an update on Monday and he will consider the hard cast. How can I keep this on her since it will be impossible the keep her quiet the whole weekend. Also, I called the doctor at about 4:45pm and he probably closes at 5pm and it is a Friday. That's probably why he blew me off. Here is a link to what her boot looks like.

Suggestions Please on how the keep it on!!!!!!!

I would wrap the boot with an ace wrap and let her draw on the ace wrap with washable markers...get a couple and you can wrinse and dry them and let her do it again. Also I know most people don't believe in giving electronic games to children this young but I have to admit that giving my 3 year old a game boy and some easy beginner games has saved my tush with this pregnancy. I'm not able to get around since I'm pretty much on moderate bed rest until delivery. Good luck hun!
Reply:Get her favorite stuffed toy and but a boot on it so she doesn't feel left out... and maybe she will think it is okay then. Good Luck
Reply:well, you could tell her that if she keeps it on for __amount of time then she gets her fav thing, (candy, a video, etc..)~~if you want her to not be able to take it off, then you could put a small dab of super glue on the velcro straps, this will make it so that with a little force you can break it, it wont be that hard for a grown person, but for a kid it would be difficult and she'd get bored of trying after a while...i hope this helps and i would love the 10 points, lol%26lt;33
Reply:why not cut the end off of a large say mens sock then you can slide the sock over her boot for a snug fit and she proably will not be able to get it off. good luck!!
Reply:I used to work in peds ortho, but, i don't EVER remember not putting a cast on a child this size. I have NEVER heard of putting a boot on this age of child for the fact of the child taking the cast off. I would demand a cast on this child, especially since you will be amazed on how this child will react with the cast, she will find a way to move with this cast. The boot is not a good choice that this Dr to you. She needs to be kept occupied whether watching a favorite movie or her high chair with tons of activities. I have a 22mnth old and can only imagine if I had that problem. I cannot believe he did not cast her knowing that she would take this off. what you might try is getting a wrap like the ones you use to wrap an injury in the tan colored one that you secure with a clip and wrap that around the boot so she cant get to the boot straps. Or be stern with her and explain to her that she cannot remove the boot, and when she does get after her with a loving way, try that first then you might have to get stern with her. If you do get the wrap you can get them at the drug store you could secure it with a safety pin which she could not undue. that is the only thing that i can think of without being in a hard cast, i still cannot understand why he did not, i understand with you being preg. and all but, she would surprise you on how mobile she would be even with the cast on. Good luck, I'm terribly sorry.
Reply:Wrap a bunch of heavy duct tape around it.

No kidding. Who cares what it looks like if it does the job? They can cut it off when they want to take it off.
Reply:Try putting a colorful sock over the boot to make it 'pretty'. It just might work to deter her attention away from taking it off. Hope it works and good luck. I would call the Doctor on Monday anyway and give him an update on her condition.
