Do you use a tackleberry buckle on your Western saddle?

I%26#039;m wondering if anyone else uses a tackleberry buckle? It%26#039;s a buckle that goes on your cinch strap (latigo) and has a lip to catch the cinch ring to tighten it quickly without having to unwrap your cinch strap completely each time you saddle. I grew up using these, and lost mine recently (fell off the end of my latigo because someone unwrapped it all the way and didn%26#039;t think to watch out for the latigo). I searched online and found them for sale at this site (if you don%26#039;t know what one is, look at this picture): http://www.kates.net/171?ParentID=158

but they cost $25 because they%26#039;re made of brass.

My husband found one at a tack shop the other day, for $6.95 and bought it, but it was the only one they had. I%26#039;d like to buy a few more, for our other saddles. Anyone know where to get them? A google search only turned up a few dead end results. I%26#039;ll include the links, for those of you who are curious how the tackleberry works. They are awesome time-savers!

thats funny, when i was a kid we called it a cackleberry

I used one, never had a roblem with it

I have a different saddle now and have never got around to putting one one but it was kinda nice.

If a google search didnt turn anything up, go to one of the tack supply sites and ask the store, they probably have them listed under another name.
Reply:yes
Reply:My mom has been using them as long as I can remember. Yes, I use them forever!! I love them!!! But we called them a different name....... %26amp; I can%26#039;t think of it. I will talk to her later, I%26#039;ll get back to you! K

  1. we bought 4 when in the USA. Saw the fellow in the shop show us how to use them. They cost about US$3, stainless. But we dont know how to use it, to put it on. The YouTube version of the takaberry is not what we saw in the shop nor does it sound like your experience. On YouTube the takaberry is attached permanently to the latigo strap. Do you know how to use it; can you tell us. Perhaps put something on YouTube so we can see the whole process. If you spell it takaberry, you'll see lots for sale, esp in Australia and USA, not here in New Zealand. Arnold
