Buckled wheel tandem + trailer?

Hi, I travel with a tandem ( Wheels 26) and a trailer monowheel Bob Yack. My wheel get often quickly buckled. I feel that I have to buy better wheels but I don%26#039;t know what kind. If you have advices let me know.

Thanks

Buckled wheel tandem + trailer?
Unfortunately for you, the Bob Yack trailer, when loaded, has a load bias toward the rear wheel of the bicycle to which it is attached. Not good for the bike!

Two suggestions:

1) Ditch the single wheeler in favour of a twin wheeler, where the load is biased to the trailer.

2) Get a wheelshop to spoke up a forty spoke rear wheel with with a triple cross pattern for extra strength and durability..

And try not to overload the trailer!

Most of the buckling occurs during acceleration/braking, when there is a phenomenal amount of torque being loaded and dissipated through a wheel and with modern eight and nine speed cassette type gearing with very shallow dishing, the problems are greatly exacerbated. You could specify a wheel with no more than six or seven gears and still have a good enough spread of ratios for all but the toughest and steepest of circumstances. In fact, fewer gears, with wider spread ratios are far more suited to towing.
Reply:You have a one-wheel trailer?

That might be part of the problem. You can%26#039;t make tight turns with a one-wheel trailer. Doing that would put a lot of stress on the rear wheel.

You don%26#039;t say how much you weigh, or how much your partner weighs. That could have something to do with it.

One-wheel trailers have some kind of support to keep them from falling over- that%26#039;s what%26#039;s putting the stress on your wheel.
Reply:Try getting a heavier rim built up.

Or a cheaper option maybe to lower the tyre pressure, try a broader tyre.

Try to load more of the weight to the front of the trailer.
